Wesley Fofana is a centre-back, featuring both in a back four and a back three, either on the left or right side, during his two years with Leicester City.

Wesley Fofana's shirt number for Chelsea will be announced shortly. He wore the No3 shirt for Leicester and while representing France at Under-21s level, having previously taken 32 during his time with Saint-Etienne.

In his two full Premier League seasons with Leicester in 2021/22 and 2021/22, as well as the opening stages of the current campaign, Wesley Fofana made 37 appearances in the competition, all but one of which came from the start. That is despite not playing a competitive match for over 10 months after suffering a broken leg at the start of last season.

As a defender, Wesley Fofana is not known for his goalscoring, although he has found the back of the net on three occasions during his short senior career. One of those came during his time in England, heading in the decisive goal of Leicester’s Europa Conference League last-16 victory over Rennes, on his first game back from a 10-month injury absence. He also scored twice for Saint-Etienne, both in wins, against Nice in Ligue 1 and Bastia-Borgo in the Coupe de France.

Wesley Fofana was born on 17 December 2000, meaning he is currently 21 years old.

Wesley Fofana has represented France Under-21s five times, having previously played for the country at Under-17 level. He is still eligible to represent the Ivory Coast, through his father, as well as France in international football.

Wesley Fofana lifted his first trophy in senior football at Wembley in 2021, when he was part of the Leicester team which frustrated Chelsea to win that season’s FA Cup final 1-0. He also reached 2020 Coupe de France final with Saint-Etienne, but finished as a runner-up after losing 1-0 to Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade de France.

Following his impressive debut campaign in English football, culminating in that FA Cup final victory, Wesley Fofana was named as Leicester City’s 2020/21 Young Player of the Year.
