The new Northern Ireland home kit was unveiled by adidas today - and it's fair to say the reaction has been mixed.

It will be worn by the senior men’s team during next year’s qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany which get under way in March.

And the kit will make its bow during the upcoming UEFA Nations League game against Kosovo at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park (24 September).

Adidas said the design inspiration for the new home jersey takes nods from past kits and uses different shades of green “to resemble the country’s iconic landscape”. It also said the single-button henley collar adds to the classic design, with a crest and sign-off on the back collar to embody national team pride.

The jersey features mesh inserts under the arms which couple with the company’s sweat-wicking Aeroready technology to keep players dry and comfortable.

Images online appear to suggest Northern Ireland will wear a yellow away kit but that has not yet been released. The fans have had their say, however, and they don't hold back.

"Home top the best in ages. Away top the worst in ages," said Richard Montieth on Twitter.

Michael Wilson tweeted: "The home one might grow on me I think, the away one is horrible."

Aaron Malcolm commented: "It's green and has a Northern Ireland badge, it'll do."

"Jokes over lads when’s the actual kits out," said David Dowie.

The Big Bird Twitter account posted: Oh yes. Big fan of this. Best one in a while. Just need team to do it proud now."

However, a number of others replied: "Boke", "That is horrific".

The kit will be sold through JD, the Irish Football Association’s retail partner. It is available to pre-order on the JD website from today. After that it will be exclusively available online from JD and in-store from mid-September.
