Martin Keown reckons Romelu Lukaku’s recent form ahead of the FA Cup final could spell major danger for Liverpool.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Keown suggested the Chelsea striker’s purple patch might just carry over into the final at Wembley later today.

Lukaku has certainly hit the levels expected of him right on cue.

After failing to score in the Premier League for nearly five months, the Belgian converted three times in the space of four days.

He bagged a brace against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but a late Conor Coady equaliser stole his thunder.

The number nine wouldn’t be denied the spotlight in the subsequent game, however.

After holding up play, running the channels, and getting into the right position all evening at Elland Road, Lukaku eventually rippled the Leeds United net with a finish full of composure.

His confidence finally appears to be cranked all the way for the first time for what feels like an eternity.

Which can only be a good sign for Chelsea as they gear up to tackle Liverpool once again this afternoon, the fourth time the sides have met this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have yet to face the full force of Lukaku yet, having been dropped for the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge and then only playing 45 minutes in the Carabao Cup final.

But if there was ever a good time to unleash the 28-year-old, it would be now.

Combining his strength and newfound self-assurance and the pace of those around him could be the key to unlocking Liverpool.

“In (Kai) Havertz, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku, who are all rapid, Chelsea have the firepower to test their opponents in this way if they can beat the offside trap,” said Keown.

“It won’t be easy, of course, given the quality of centre back Virgil van Dijk and either Ibrahima Konate or Joel Matip, who are forever ready to sweep up danger as the last line of defence.

“But it is ominous that Lukaku has been brought back into the team just in time for this final, scoring three goals in two games.

“He’s put himself back in the picture and will want to lead the line for Chelsea, potentially becoming the hero.”

For the majority of the campaign, Lukaku has been made out to be the villain of the piece.

The controversial interview with Sky Italia definitely did not paint him in a good light.

However, if he can in any way contribute towards Chelsea lifting the FA Cup in a few hours, his antagonistic tag will be loosened.
