The Mexican Football Federation has unveiled a new logo that will be used as the new badge for the men's and women's national teams. Presented along with the new slogan, "Made of Mexicans," the new logo aims to bring Mexican soccer into the modern age while also adapting the image of their national team. The shift in identity is needed as Mexican soccer has been under scrutiny as of late for unsavory chants as opposed to their play on the field.

The Mexican men's national team was forced to play one of their home Concacaf qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup behind closed doors. But when the chants resumed, the Mexican Football Federation was fined approximately $110,000 while also announcing a further ban for fans in the stadium. Mexico will travel to Jamaica on Jan. 27 before a home date against Costa Rica on Jan. 30 and Panama on Feb. 2 -- you can stream them on Paramount+, your home for the majority of Concacaf qualifiers.

While the federation has come out against the chants in the past, stronger action is needed to stamp them out and that's where a branding and identity shift might help things to a degree. From the press release: "With this renewal, the FMF, through Mexico's national teams, ratifies its responsibility to tirelessly pursue the objectives set and the pride of representing each and every Mexican, part of a resilient, competitive, and committed nation." This is a statement that does show the commitment to cleaning things up off the pitch.

Looking into the logo, it brings together elements of the sun stone, Mexican flag along with Aztec and Mayan art as a nod to their heritage. It will also be part of a new uniform that will unveil in mid-2022 as part of the team's partnership with Adidas. 

Mexico is currently in third place in Concacaf World Cup Qualifying after losses to the United States and Canada. The top three teams will punch a ticket to the World Cup in Qatar a year from now, while the fourth-placed team in Concacaf will play the OFC Final winner -- likely New Zealand -- in a single-match playoff to reach the World Cup. Paramount+ is home to up to 79 games (including away games for the USMNT) on its platform.
