Spanish soccer champions Real Madrid have announced a new purpose-driven partnership with the Spanish division of German car manufacturer BMW.

The agreement will see the LaLiga club and BMW launch joint initiatives with a focus on future mobility, sustainability and diversity.

Real Madrid’s men’s and women’s soccer and basketball first teams, as well as their coaching staff, will all be provided with fully electric BMW vehicles through the new partnership.

The deal will also see the establishment of a collaboration centre for sustainability, which will serve as a forum for promoting new innovative projects that make a positive impact on the environment.

BMW will replace Audi as the automotive sponsor of Real Madrid, bringing an end to a 19-year partnership first signed in 2003.

Audi is reportedly set to prioritise its deal with Bayern Munich, who the German car brand holds an eight per cent share in.

Real Madrid and BMW will work together on initiatives that support the sustainable development of the club’s iconic Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, which is currently undergoing renovations.

BMW and Real Madrid will also launch the ‘Next Sustainability Trophy’, which aims to bring recognition to eco-friendly initiatives, innovation and sustainability projects.

“Real Madrid not only represents the world’s leading sporting institution, but also an organisation in constant evolution, striving for excellence in its activities based on demand, talent, quality and leadership,” said Manuel Terroba, president of BMW Group Spain.

“It also has a firm commitment to sustainability, solidarity, diversity and a winning spirit. This makes the club the perfect partner to address the challenges of the present and the future.

“Both institutions will work together to promote these values and, above all, respect for the environment, which represents a long-standing commitment to sustainable mobility, given that in 2022, the BMW Group will be marking 50 years since it unveiled its first electric BMW.”
